Statues

Putting up a statue or two of a famous player or manager outside a football ground seems to have become more popular in recent years. Here are some statutes from grounds around the country.

Possibly the classiest statue out side a football ground.....that of Bobby Moore - the only England captain ever to receive the World Cup - outside the New Wembley.  Certainly much taller and imposing than the rest below. That's my son Peter, who's 6 foot 3 inches tall, so you can see how big it is!

Still on the England connection. England's best ever manager? Sir Alf Ramsey outside Ipswich Town's Portman Road ground.

Three statues of one man this time. Another contender for the bext ever Engiish player, Stanley Mattews. Outside Stoke City's Brittania Stadium.

Fulham favourite, Johnny Hayes at Fulham's Craven Cottage.

Back to Ipswich. This time it's the very popular Bobby Robson, revered not just in Ipswich and Newcastle, but throughout the land.

Another great manager, loved by many, Bill Shankley, outside the Kop at Anfield.

Here's one from Carlisle United. According to my memory the statue represents all the players who have played for Carlisle over the years.

Stan Mortenson outside Blackpool's Bloomfield Road. Note Blackpool Tower underneath his arm.
